Racing Journey: Following a Young Driver’s Dream

Every racer has a first starting line.

For our son, that journey began at just 13 years old when he climbed behind the wheel and entered the world of youth drag racing. Like many families, we started with more questions than answers, a lot to learn, and a desire to support a dream that was quickly becoming a passion.

What began as a single race has grown into a family adventure filled with early mornings, late nights in the garage, lessons learned at the track, and unforgettable memories along the way.

This section of Hammocks & Hills is dedicated to documenting that journey—from the first pass down the track to the milestones, challenges, victories, and setbacks that shape a young driver’s development. We hope our experiences help other families understand what youth racing is really like and encourage more parents and young drivers to explore opportunities in grassroots motorsports.

While the competition is exciting, we believe racing teaches much more than driving. It builds confidence, responsibility, discipline, sportsmanship, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to learn from both success and failure.
